Catholic colleges and universities fight to avert fiscal disaster amid the coronavirus pandemic

Most Catholic colleges and universities have traditionally educated the poor and, increasingly the undocumented, and they, therefore, run very thin margins. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, many will  face financial hardship in the coming year. Potential enrollment declines, as fewer familes can afford tuition, and the challenges of transitioning to online education when their missions are based on building community through personal relationships and pastoral care, will make the next academic year very difficult.
