Cooks and cashiers at university dining halls plead for Chicago schools to pay lost wages amid coronavirus job cuts

Many dining service employees of companies contracting with area universities have been furloughed or laid off during the coronvirus pandemic. Their union, UNITE HERE Local 1, is urging local universities to pay the workers' lost wages during this unprecedented work stoppage. While Dominican University is not in a financial position to compensate employees of its dining services provider, Quest Food Managment Services, the university made a $10,000 contribution to the company's campaign to help its workers.
