Maya Banks Receives Student Laureate Award

​Maya Banks, a senior majoring in accounting with minors in computer science and Black World Studies, has been named a 2019 Student Laureate by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. Each year, the Academy selects one senior to represent each of the state's four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities. Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular acitivies, while overcoming obstacles to their success. 

Banks is a student-athlete (basketball and tennis) and holds a 3.92 GPA. She received the Student Laureate Medallion, a certificate of achievement and a $1,000 check at the 45th Annual Student Laureate Award ceremony on November 16 at the Old State Capitol Building in Springfield. 

Dominican finalists for the 2019 Student Laureate award included Samantha Cummings, Jada Coleman, Maria Marquez, Paulina Rosales and Tania Rosiles.
