Hugh McElwain

Professor, Chair, Theology

Hugh McElwain has been a theology professor at Dominican University since 1973. In addition, he served as dean of the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences from 1994 to 2002. Prior to coming to Dominican, McElwain served as professor of systematic theology and academic dean of The Catholic Theological Union at Chicago. He has received the Outstanding Service Award from The Catholic Theological Union and the Peacemaker Award from the Chicago Peace Museum. At Dominican, he has received the Sears Award for Outstanding Teaching and Service, the Mother Evelyn Murphy Excellence in Teaching Award and the Sister Mary Clemente Davlin, OP Diversity Leadership Award. His current research has led him to the area of evolution at the human level and particularly neuroscience and neurotheology.
