The Pirate of Collingswood: The Preacher, the FFC and Radio Free America

Dominican University Journalism Professor John Jenks was used as a resource for an NJ.com (New Jersey) article on pirate radio, specifically the fiery fundamental preacher Rev. Carl McIntire's use of an illegal offshore radio station on a US registered ship off the coast of New Jersey in 1973.  The broadcast, referred to as Radio Free America by Collingswood, lasted all of 10 hours before the Coast Guard boarded the Columbus and, on orders from the Federal Communications Commission, shut it down.

Collingswood, whose denunciations of apostasy, Communism and Satan, had once been heard on more than 600 radio stations across the country, was hauled into court, Radio Free America was never heard again, and the Columbus was later sold to pay off the minister's debts.
