Dominican Alumnae Sisters Alicia and Stephanie Run Marathon to Benefit School

Friday, October 5, 2018

Dominican Alumnae Sisters Alicia Torres and Stephanie Baliga are running the Chicago Marathon this Sunday, October 7 to raise funds to benefit Mission of Our Lady of the Angels in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood. The graduates of Dominican's School of Education are hoping to renovate a new building to be used to expand their food pantry and social outreach center. The school feeds 1,000 families each month.

Sister Stephanie is a veteran runner, having run in college at almost Olympic qualifying times. She is hoping to post a 2:45 hour time in the marathon next year so she can qualify for the Olympic trials in 2020.

Sister Alicia, who won the Chopped Cooking Challenge in 2016, told ABC7 News that she gets up at 4 a.m. to get in her training runs.

The sisters will be leading a team of about 85 people, including several priests--who they say they will beat in the race.
