Division St., Rover Forest.

This conference is a unique opportunity to celebrate the research and scholarship on women and gender, create community and solidarity between our universities, and bring together students, faculty and staff in an environment where everyone teaches and everyone learns. The daylong conference of formal paper and poster/art presentations allows the community to see what students, staff and faculty are doing to help amplify issues of gender and race.

Both Dominican University and Concordia University Chicago students (undergraduate & graduate), alums, faculty and staff are eligible to participate. To apply submit an abstract of a completed paper, artwork, or a work-in-progress which addresses gender or the study of women as a major theme

To celebrate the tenth anniversary, the sponsors of the event have invited special guest Dr. Dorothy Roberts with her presentation, Fatal Intervention: Re-creating Race in the Genomic Era. An internationally recognized scholar, public intellectual and social justice advocate, Roberts has written and lectured extensively on the interplay of gender, race, and class. Roberts argues that genetic understandings of race mask the impact of racism and she calls for affirming our common humanity by working to end the social inequalities that truly divide us.

Dr. Roberts will be speaking at 10 a.m. with a discussion and book signing to follow. Her two books, Fatal Interventions and Killing the Black Body, will be available for purchase. This is part of the conference is open to the public and more information is attached.
